Task 16 - This is the trophy I made on RedKid.net. I think it's a pretty cool one. I like all of the online features because it allows you more freedom of location of PC. I have to say however, that I don't think they will ever be able to replace desktop software, such as Microsoft Office, simply because they have far more power and variabillity. I would hope that patrons and even employees would find these features useful. I know I do.
Task 17 - Looking at the list of sites on the Web 2.0 award list, one that i use quite frequently stuck out at me. I am a member of the social networking site Facebook and I use it quite frequently. It is one of my favorite sites for keeping in touch with my friends. I have been a member for several years now and have watched the site evolve from a reletivly small site that required a member for have a valid college e-mail address to join, into a site for both college students and high school students, and then into what it is today. In addition to the standard pictures feature, wall and messaging features, and groups you can join, there are literally hundereds of applications you can add (most of which are created by outside sources) which can enhance a profile. The only current downside I see to Facebook right now is that is it slowly becoming more like myspace. It is becoming easier to keep tabs on people, easier to join, and easier to become just another member. Facebook is slowly losing it's personal touch. However, it's major advantage is the much better privacy controls, which allow a member to control exactly what can be seen and accessed by whom. All in all, Facebook is a great site for teens in high school and college to keep in touch over distance, or just to chat and post fun pictures.
